Chronological History of 25 Years   
1983 – 1993 : Growth in a Decade

Bhagalpur, the silk city, is a land of fertility and agricultural flourishing. It has a history of learning and Prosperity. It is mentioned in the writings of Hieuen Tsang and Fa-hien. It was called the Angh Desh or Karna Kshetra. It is a land of trade and commerce. It was a flourishing centre in the Magadha Empire. Vikramshila, the ancient seat of wisdom is located in this district. Its importance is so much that even Pt. Nehru has mentioned about it in his letter to Indira on her birthday. To revive this ancient quest for knowledge, the Diocese of Bhagalpur have decided to give education to the poor and deprived classes. The foundation stone was laid by Late Bishop Urban McGarry.

A Dawn Breaks

The chirping of the birds , the clattering of the bubbles, the fretting of the Ganges, the cold breeze from the Himalayas and the dewy twilight dance with happiness. The starry night hid itself and the first ray of sun peeps out through the eastern sky. As it lighted the land, the happiness increased and the expectations overwhelmed. The nature showered her blessing. The branches of the trees exult in the glory of new dawn. The people murmured around the importance of this day. It was a dawn of a simple beginning for the mighty growth. 1st February, 1983, the dawn of expectations, the birth day of St. Joseph’s School. All the expectations got accomplished at ……………. Yes, a new school is born in the city of Bhagalpur for the whole world.

First School Day

The first day of the new scholastic year started on 2nd February, 1983 with students admitted in nursery and K.G. classes. The new venture started with the address of the principal Rev. Fr. Varghese Panangatt, praying for the showers of blessing. He was assisted by Fr. Joseph Thanniparampil as its Secretary. Srs. Alice, Loretta and Joyce joined as first teaching staff with other teachers.

Parents Meeting

The growth of the school depends on the mutual interaction and consultative approach of parents and teachers. The first Parent-Teacher Meeting was held on 3rd May, 1983.
